odyssey project

Thank you to all who supported the Odyssey Project over the years.

Thank you to all of our friends and supporters. Odyssey was an absolutely wonderful journey. We had the pleasure of working with dozens of incredible young people who performed over a hundred awesome shows and brought joy and happiness to thousands of people. Odyssey’s accomplishments were only possible due to the kind support and assistance of literally hundreds of folks in our community.

Nine Years of the Odyssey

-85 students have received the “Odyssey experience”

-Over 1400 hours of rehearsal

-Over 120 performances

-Over 300 songs

-24 alumni have continued with post-secondary studies or careers in the world of music.

-Thousands of students from TLDSB schools have been entertained and enriched by our school shows, our annual student matinee concert series, as well as four performances at mass band days and five performances at the Trillium Lakelands Arts Camp.

-Our members have received performance workshops with the likes of Chad Smith, the Tower of Power horn section, Brent Turner, Dave Stillwell, Larry Shields, John Chalmers, Rick and Terri Johnson and Eric Smeaton.

-Our kids made a real connection with the Tower of Power, attending four of their concerts and hanging with them after the shows.

-We shared the stage and had a performance workshop with the Blue Jackets Required from Humber College

-We opened for the Nylons at the Academy Theatre

-Odyssey performed at the G8 Youth Summit in Huntsville

-We were part of the world’s largest ever LipDub filmed in Lindsay

-Along with I.E. Weldon’s Contemporary Music Class we raised $10,000 at our 2014 Free the Children benefit concert (enough for Free the Children to build an entire school)

-Three straight appearances at Lindsay Rotanza

-Outstanding results at festival in Peterborough every time

-6 appearances at Splendour of the Season

-14 Canada Day performances in 8 eight years

-7 performances at Sparrow Lake Camp including their 100th anniversary celebration

-Two weekends of fun times spent in the recording studio putting together our album “Pieces of VIII”.

-Countless performances at community celebrations

-Over $17,500 raised for Free the Children with our annual benefit concerts.

-Locally, the band has helped countless non-profit organizations and charities raise money by performing at their fund raising events.

-We have celebrated with our community at torch run celebrations for both the 2010 Olympics and the 2015 Pan Am Games

Special thank you to Colleen Morrison for the work that very few people saw; the time spent making arrangements, communicating with band members and their families, doing banking, paying insurance, ordering pizza, making phone calls etc. Without this we would not have been able to function.

And finally to Sheri Brenneman and Randy Read- It was said recently by one of our alumni that “Odyssey isn’t a band but a lifestyle and a culture all on it’s own”. Randy and Sheri are living proof of this. They have each donated somewhere between 1500 and 2000 hours of their lives over the last nine years. To put it in perspective, that is between 37 and 50 forty hour weeks. There is no Odyssey Project without these guys. They have taught, coached, sung, played, mentored, arranged music, loaded equipment, unloaded equipment, driven equipment, driven kids, planned shows, created posters, taken photos and so much more. Most of all though, they have been the best role models to our kids, the best colleagues to work with and the very best friends a person could have. We have been very fortunate to have a team of people whose skills so complimented each other’s, who worked so well together, and who shared the same love for kids, music and life. So thank you very much!

If I have missed anyone please accept my apology; my memory is not as good as it used to be and looking back nine days can be a challenge at times let alone nine years. Please know that I will always reflect back on these past nine years as a time of immense joy and satisfaction largely because of what you have all given to the Odyssey Project.

Kind Regards,

David Morrison
